The Importance of Preserving Our Past

The William Blackwood Home Circa 1840
William Blackwood Born 1799 of Campobello South Carolina, built this home around 1840 with his wife Mary Coates Blackwood of Newberry County. Together they raised 12 children, 9 of which were boys. All 9 of William and Marys sons fought in the civil war. Two sons Alexander and Calvin were both killed in action at he 2nd Battle of Manassas.
William Passed on December 29 1872 at the age of 73. I will add more information about this home as I uncover it.
Threat of destruction
The Blackwood homestead is currently for sale. While home the is considered by most to be a tear-down, its bones are strong, and its soul is alive. The Blackwood house deserves a new loving family to restore it and continue its legacy. The homestead is 54 beautiful acres, priced at 30,000.00 an acre. The owner would consider subdividing it into 5 acre parcels.
